Dominick Reyes Wants To Be The Man To Dethrone Jon Jones

One of the most exciting fighters to burst on to the MMA scene recently, is Dominick Reyes. The American boasts a record of 10-0 and 4-0 in the UFC. Seven of his wins coming by way of a finish.

Next up for the appropriately named ‘The Devastator’, is a show down with Volkan Oezdemir, at UFC London. This is a fight between the UFC ranked number five and eight, in the light heavyweight division. And the fans can’t wait for it.

A win for either man would really put them in title contention. Something the unbeaten 29 year old is very aware of, as he aims to be the man to dethrone Jon Jones. As he told MMA Junkie Radio.

“I would love to be the guy to dethrone Jones. It matters. That’s been the plan all along. I’ve kind of always wanted to fight Jones. I started fighting in 2012 and look at that, Jones was the guy then. So I’ve kind of been training for him the entire time.”

Jones fights Anthony Smith next, at UFC 235, and Reyes thinks that Smith could do better than most people are predicting.

“I want Jones to win, but I think Smith can catch him. Smith is a tough competitor. He throws those hands. If he goes out there and throws caution to wind, he might get him.”

Although he believes Smith could beat Jones, Reyes is still planning on how to beat ‘Jones’.

“When you fight Jones you’ve got to look at this: He’s got master strategists in his corner, he always follows the game plan. You need to understand, how will you beat yourself? Then you need to adapt, just like he adapts, mid-fight. You kind of have to go, ‘F the Jon Jones lore.’ You’ve got to forget that.

“He’s just a man. Fight him. Don’t be scared of him. Those things you need to beat Jones. I’m going to beat Jones if nobody else does.”
