UFC Fight News: Including Miocic vs Cormier And Volkanovski vs Holloway

Daniel Cormier has signed on the dotted line for a trilogy fight with current UFC heavyweight champion, Stipe Miocic. They are 1-1 so far, with Stipe regaining his coveted belt at UFC 241 last year via a TKO stoppage.

Cormier Signs On The Dotted Line

DC took to Twitter yesterday to acknowledge Miocic’s tweet that he’s finally ready to return to the Octagon. And in the last few hours, has posted a photo of his digital signature, which is presumably scribbled on their latest bout agreement.

UFC 251: Volkanovski vs Holloway 2

ESPN has revealed that a rematch between current featherweight champion Alex Volkanovski and former champ Max Holloway is in the works for July 11th. Their first fight went the distance but the newly crowned Australian fighter out-boxed his opponent in every round.

Holloway ruled the division for almost three years, until his loss at UFC 245 and is still only 28 years old. The ‘Blessed’ Hawaiian will look to improve on his last performance and reclaim his position as one of the greatest champions that the sport has ever seen.

According to Ariel Helwani, the UFC is aiming for three title fights on this card. As well as Volkanovski vs Holloway, the promotion is targeting Petr Yan vs Jose Aldo for the vacant bantamweight title, and Kamaru Usman vs someone. And that someone is looking likely to be Gilbert Burns right now.

August 1st Vegas Fight Night

It appears that the company wants to maintain their presence in Las Vegas, with an event featuring Holy Holm and rising star Irene Aldana in the works for August 1st.

Aldana has won five of her last six fights and this bout will put the victor in a strong position for title contention against Amanda Nunes, who currently rules the women’s 135lb division.

Undefeated knockout artist Edmen Shahbazyan, will finally get his chance to fight Derek Brunson in an exciting middleweight matchup on the same card, after their fight has fallen through numerous times previously.

Further Fight Announcements

Former RIZIN champion Jiri Prochazka, is set to make his UFC debut against light heavyweight veteran Volkan Oezdemir on July 11th. This date falls in to Dana White’s time frame for the launch of Fight Island and would be a solid co-main event for any future card.

Hannah Cliffers is set to make her flyweight debut this weekend at the UFC APEX against Mariya Agapova on a weeks notice, just ten days after losing to Mackenzie Dern at UFC Vegas.

Ian Heinisch is also set for a quick turn around, having left UFC 250 uninjured after swiftly knocking out Gerald Meerschaert in the first round. The hard hitting middleweight has got a taste for blood and now plans on taking out his former opponent’s teammate, Brendan Allen on June 27th.

It has also been announced that the Nevada State Athletic Commission have approved the UFC’s next three events at the APEX Center in Las Vegas. These cards will take place across three consecutive Saturday nights, starting from this week.

Which fight are you most looking forward to?
