UFC: Cejudo Trades Shots With Garbrandt, Yan And Sterling

UFC bantamweight champions and contenders, past and present, have been trading blows on social media over the last couple of days. The central figure in the back and forth has been Henry Cejudo, with the former two division champion going at it with Cody Garbrandt, Petr Yan, and Aljamain Sterling.

The Twitter rumble started when Cejudo poked fun at Garbrandt, while responding to Figueiredo calling him out in an interview with ESPN’s Ariel Helwani.

While Figueiredo didn’t respond to Cejudo’s tweet, Garbrandt didn’t shy away from throwing a few counters, calling the former UFC flyweight and bantamweight champion a ‘coward’ for retiring in his prime. Before challenging him to a fight in March.

Cejudo responded by calling Garbrandt a mere ‘appetiser’, as the two continued to fire shots at each other.

The reigning bantamweight champion Yan then joined the Twitter spat, backing Garbrandt over Cejudo.

Neither Cejudo or Garbrandt responded to Yan initially…

But Garbrandt responded shortly after by asking the Russian when he intends to make his first title defence.

Cejudo then fired back at Yan, saying that ‘Flavor Flav stunt double’ Sterling will overpower him to win the UFC bantamweight title.

This prompted more back and forth between the current and former bantamweight champions.

Joining in the Twitter beef, Sterling warned Cejudo that he can expect another call out from him again when he beats Yan for the title.

‘No Mercy’ returned to hit back at Cejudo for mocking his past two opponents, Jose Aldo and Urijah Faber.

Cejudo then hit back at both Sterling and Yan, before leaving the conversation by wishing his rivals a Merry Christmas.

Yan and Sterling were scheduled to fight at UFC 256, but the champion had to pull out due to personal reasons. The title fight is expected to be rescheduled for early 2021.

Garbrandt was slated to fight for the 125lbs title against Figueiredo at UFC 255 but had to withdraw due to health issues. As a result, the Brazilian fought and defeated Alex Perez in last month’s pay-per-view main event. He is now set to defend his title for the second time in three weeks against Brandon Moreno this weekend in the UFC 256 main event.

Garbrandt expects to return in the first quarter of 2021. As for Cejudo, he is retired for now, but has said he could return if he receives a lucrative offer.

Former bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw has also announced that he will return in the first quarter of 2021, after serving a two-year doping suspension. He wants an immediate title shot upon return.

Who do you think will be the UFC bantamweight champion this time next year, Petr Yan, Aljamain Sterling, Cody Garbrandt, TJ Dillashaw, Henry Cejudo, or someone else?
