UFC: Alistair Overeem Wants To Avenge Knockout Loss Next

Alistair Overeem got back to winning ways this past weekend at UFC Florida, when he scored a second round TKO win over Walt Harris. In his previous outing, ‘The Reem’ suffered a knockout loss in the last few seconds of his fight with heavy hitter Jairzinho Rozenstruik at UFC Washington, last December. To make matters worse, the 40 year old had been comfortably winning the fight up until the final moments.

When dealing with a power puncher you have to be perfect in every exchange, while the power puncher only has to be perfect once. Overeem, for the most part, was perfect.

Speaking to Sirius XM’s Fight Nation (as transcribed by MMA Junkie), Overeem not only stated that he wants to run it back with Rozenstruik, but guaranteed a knockout win.

“I’m not dissatisfied about the Rozenstruik performance. … We schooled the guy. We were up all five rounds, it was just like one, or actually it was two punches that he connected. In my opinion a wrong stoppage, the ref should have never jumped in and when he jumped in it was zero seconds left. I actually had thought that it was the end of the fight because I remember the click, click, last ten seconds and then I got dropped, straight back to my feet and it was over.

“I thought I actually won that fight and then it was like hey (expletive), they stopped it, TKO? And then you have Rozenstruik talking about it. He KO’d me, he KO’d me. That guy got lucky and I would love to run it back with him because [if] I fight him again, I’m gonna finish him. One hundred percent.”

Rozenstruik was unable to build on his win over Overeem, and was knocked out by Francis Ngannou in the opening minute of their fight earlier this month at UFC 249.

Would you like to see a rematch between Alistair Overeem and Jairzinho Rozenstruik? And what do you think the outcome would be the second time around?
