Tyson Fury Teases MMA Double Header With Conor McGregor

Tyson Fury has big plans for 2020. Not content with looking to take over the boxing world, ‘The Gypsy King’ is planning on taking over the whole combat sport world. And he plans on getting help from a certain Conor McGregor.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, Fury suggested that we could see him compete in MMA in the next year.

“I’ve got something big coming up, after this, even bigger than this. We might see Tyson Fury have his MMA debut this year. Like I say, Tyson Fury [is] taking over.”

Fury went on to say that he has been speaking to McGregor about his plans, who had invited him to Dublin, to train with him.

“I’ve been speaking to Conor about it, he’s willing to train me. It’s gonna be good.

“He just said any time that you are ready come over to Dublin and let’s go. I can’t wait, I’m going to take him up on the offer. Who knows we might be on a double-header. ‘The Gypsy King’ and Conor McGregor.”

Whereas the idea of getting into an MMA fight would be daunting to most boxers, Fury says he would love to throw down in the cage.

“I come from a long line of bare-knuckle boxing champions. Getting hurt, getting bloodied is nothing new to me, it’s all a part of my heritage. I would love to get in there and smash someone up.”

McGregor even took to social media to show his approval.

Fury, who is regarded by many boxing fans as the lineal heavyweight champion, is coming off a unanimous decision win over Otto Wallin last month. It is expected that he will rematch Deontay Wilder early next year. The two previously fought out a controversial draw in December of 2018.

McGregor has just announced that he is returning to the UFC at UFC 246, on January 18th. Although this hasn’t been confirmed by the UFC yet. Nor has an opponent been named. The former UFC two division champion hasn’t fought since losing to Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229, one year ago.

The 31 year old Fury isn’t the only boxer to announce plans to move to MMA in the last few days. WBA, WBC, IBF, WBO and The Ring female middleweight world champion Claressa Shields, who has teased of fighting Amanda Nunes in the past, tweeted that she’s moving over to MMA.
