Legal Troubles Aside, Francis Ngannou Eyes Future Fight With Jon Jones

The man known as Jon ‘Bones’ Jones may be about to take an unplanned hiatus, after being arrested last week. When the reigning UFC light heavyweight champion manages to put his legal troubles behind however, he might come back and find out there’s a ‘Predator’ waiting for him, in the form of Francis Ngannou.

Speaking to Submission Radio (as transcribed by Low Kick MMA) before Jones was arrested, Ngannou gave his thoughts as to how ‘Bones’ would do in the UFC heavyweight division.

“I think he could do well wherever he goes, wherever he wants to be. I mean, there’s no doubt about it. When you look skill-wise, fighting experience, everything, there’s no doubt that he could do well everywhere.”

While Ngannou states he would be very confident if he ever faced Jones, the hard hitting Cameroonian thinks you would have to be a fool to underestimate him.

“Yeah of course, Jon Jones is a challenge for everyone. Obviously, I will put myself as a winner, but if you don’t take Jon Jones as a challenge, that means something’s wrong with you, that means you’re crazy a little bit, I think.

“I mean, yeah, this guy’s been around and has been beating people up, being champ, being through all types of fights over years and years, and he’s still in the top position. And if you don’t take it as a challenge, that mean you get it wrong, all wrong.”

Jones was arrested by Albuquerque police in the early hours of Thursday morning after failing a sobriety test. The 32-year-old was arrested on one count of aggravated DWI (driving while intoxicated), one count of negligent use of a firearm, one count of possession of an open container, and one count driving with no proof of insurance.

Ngannou was scheduled to fight Jairzinho Rozenstruik in the UFC Columbus main event but the card has been postponed due to coronavirus. Dana White has suggested that it could be moved to UFC 249, should that card go ahead.

If Jon Jones gets himself back on track, do you think we could ever see him face Francis Ngannou inside the UFC Octagon?
