Gina Iniong Wants To Make Her Parents, Fans And Country Proud

Gina “Conviction” Iniong is one of the top contenders for the ONE Women’s Atomweight World Title, standing tall amongst the stacked roster of ONE Championship’s female athletes.

Iniong has certainly come a long way — from taking up Wushu back in college, to acquiring a university scholarship, to competing against the best athletes in her division, with wins over the likes of former title contender Jenny Huang, MIMMA Women’s Champion Jihin Radzuan and DEEP Jewels World Champion Mei Yamaguchi. It will only be a matter of time until she gets her shot at a world title.

“I believe that I have given my 100% in every match I took part of regardless of the outcome,” Iniong said.

“I have faith as well that I will be given a shot for the world title at the right time. I just have to be patient and continue training for my next bout whomever ONE Championship pairs me up with, so I can deliver a performance worthy of a world champion.”

The six-time Philippine National Wushu Champion’s career has achieved success and gathered accolades along the way through her hard work and discipline. Iniong and the rest of her Team Lakay family were honored for their accomplishments. Though receiving attention has never been her motive, Iniong said just wants to be an inspiration for those who have followed her journey.

“I took up mixed martial arts as my career because it is my passion,” Iniong said.

“If in the process I get to inspire and motivate my fellow female athletes or even anyone who is not into martial arts to do their best in their own endeavours and never give up, that would be huge praise for me.”

Iniong also said she owes all her achievements to her parents and hopes to continue to make them proud.

“There are times when my parents worry about my health,” Iniong concluded.

“They are my parents after all and we cannot help it if they worry about their daughter but they have always been supportive of my career. I always do my best in everything I do so I can make my parents, fans, and country proud.”
