Four Fighters Gained More Than 10% Of Their Body Weight From Weigh-ins To Fight Night At UFC 232

Four fighters gained more than 10% of their body weight from weigh-in day to fight night, at UFC 232. With another three fighters gaining 9.9%.  Alexander Volkanovski (14%), Montel Jackson (14%) and Douglas Silva de Andrade (13.6%) gained the most.

This is an improvement on UFC 227, where 18 of the 24 fighters on the card gained more than 10%. The California State Athletic Commission (CSAC) began releasing fight-night weights last summer and they can recommended any fighter who gains more than 10%, to move up a weight class. I love the fact that the CSAC release these details and wish more commissions would follow suit.

It does seem that more fighters are starting to move up a weight class to fight closer to their walk around weight. Which we here at Asian Persuasion MMA, are all up for. There of course are many fighters who still attempt to loss as much weight as humanly possible, in order to get an advantage over their opponent. An advantage that doesn’t exist if their opponent cuts the same amount of weight.

Two fighters at UFC 232 that moved up a weight were Michael Chiesa and of course, Amanda Nunes. With both winning. Interestingly Nunes was only 4.5lbs lighter than Cris Cyborg on fight night and Chiesa actually weighed more than his opponent, Carlos Condit.

Although Chiesa would have put on weight since his last fight at 155lbs, it’s scary to think that he still weighed 9.9% more on fight night than he did at the weigh-ins, fighting at 170lbs.

Here are all the full list of weigh-in and fight night weights, as provided by MMA Fighting:
