Demetrious Johnson Notches Up Another Victory

Demetrious Johnson continues his winning streak. After coming out victorious in his first three ONE Championship bouts en route to becoming crowned the Flyweight Grand Prix Champion, ‘DJ’ has now picked up another victory, but this time over his medical condition – Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO).

Johnson excitedly announced the good news through his Instagram Story (as transcribed by Bloody Elbow), “I’m super excited, I was almost in shock when [the doctor] said, ‘It’s all gone. You got no more SIBO.’ I was like, ‘What? Are you sure?’”

Demetrious first disclosed the diagnosis two weeks ago on the Ariel Helwani MMA Show where he detailed how he got the bacteria.

“When I came back from Thailand, we ordered pizza ’cause we are about to go to Florida and I had like six slices of pizza and the next thing you know my summer was jacked up, just jacked up,” detailed Johnson. “And it was unusual because I eat whatever I want. And then I went to Florida and I tried to clean up my diet and its just kept on being painful, painful, painful.”

Johnson also revealed that he took antibiotics to combat the bacteria during the training camp for his Tatsumitsu Wada and Danny Kingad matches, which is quite impressive because of how he performed in those two bouts.

Right now, the number one contender for Adriano Moraes’ ONE Flyweight World Championship will try to re-introduce food back to his system, as he braces himself in an epic showdown with the Brazilian titlist.

“I’m happy that I can now try to start putting weight back on my body, and [that I don’t have] to pop antibiotics like candy to try to kill this thing.”
