‘Cowboy’ Cerrone On Conor McGregor Fight: I Think It’s Going To Happen

After months of speculation as to whether we will see him fight again, Conor McGregor last week announced that he is set to return on January 18th, at UFC 246. Although he didn’t name an opponent, it is believed that ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone and Justin Gaethje are the front runners to welcome the former UFC two division champion back to the Octagon.

Speaking to TMZ Sports, ‘Cowboy’ said his and Conor’s teams are in discussions to make the fight happen. Adding it’s ‘looking good’ that the fight will happen.

“I think it’s going to happen this time, I really do. Conor’s really serious about making a comeback. He’s doing whatever he wants to do. I think Conor’s side and our teams have both reached out and are trying to figure it out. It’s looking good though.

“Man, four years ago, I would say, maybe he would carry the card but man, I’ve got just as much needle power as he does now. This is going to be a huge fight. Huge, huge money. I don’t understand why UFC wouldn’t want to be engaged to it. Conor will be pumped and I’m pumped. It’s a fight everyone wants to watch.”

While McGregor has engaged in back and forth trash talk with the majority of his previous opponents, it doesn’t appear that ‘Cowboy’ will be throwing any shade the Irishman’s way. Cerrone instead, deciding to show his respect for ‘The Notorious’.

“He’s the best in the business at talking shit, so it should be fun, man. We’ll see how crazy he gets. It’s going to be a fun fight. You know, he’s a great fighter. I’m not taking anything away from him, by any means.

‘Cowboy’ is coming off two straight losses. Albeit, to two of the very best lightweights in the world, in Tony Ferguson and Justin Gaethje. Prior to that, Cerrone had won his previous three fights. McGregor hasn’t fought since losing to Khabib Nurmagomedov one year ago at UFC 229.

Do you think Conor McGregor vs ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone is the fight to make?
