Covington Wants Usman Rematch Or He’s ‘Ending’ Woodley’s Career

Colby Covington is about violence and stirring things up. A trash talker by trade, Covington knows what to say and who to say it about. This time he has taken aim at UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman and the former champ, Tyron Woodley.

Speaking to MMA Junkie, Covington outlined his immediate goals in the stacked UFC 170lbs division.

“I want my rematch with ‘Marty Fakenewsman’ (Usman). There’s no other fight to make. We’ve got unfinished business. The way that last fight went down, everybody knows I was winning that fight, that was my fight until Marc Goddard made a stupid decision to stop the fight when the fight wasn’t even close to being over. I could go all day, I don’t get tired.”

Usman and Covington had themselves a good ol’ fashion shoot-out back in December at UFC 245. That night ended with ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ still holding the belt and ”Chaos” in hospital with a broken jaw. Colby however, disputes the loss.

The always polarising American Top Team fighter is still focused on championship gold and insists on a rematch with Usman, but Covington admits to leaving the door open for a bout with Woodley. Whom he has been going back and forth in interviews and on social media again recently.

“If I don’t get that fight then the only other fight that would make sense for me is to end Tyron Woodley’s career,” Covington said. “You see him out there broke as f*** begging to fight someone, now he’s over on Cameo but you can’t believe anything Woodley says. He’s like ‘Oh, I’m going to fight three times in three weeks.’ Bro, you’re a broke bitch, you didn’t even fight three times in four years so I think the UFC knows where I stand.

“I want to make the biggest fights happen for the fans, but I’m going to stand firm. I want my rematch, I deserve my rematch. Everybody knows who won that night and give me a level playing field and a competent ref, and that’s a completely different outcome next time.”

Covington was in discussions to meet Woodley at UFC 249. The pair were the front runners to save the troubled card after Khabib Nurmagomedov go stranded in Russia. The UFC decided to go with Ferguson vs Gaethje instead. But even though the fight didn’t materialise, the animosity remains.

“I’m seriously ready to fight today,” Covington said. “If there was a fight tomorrow against Woodley or Usman, I would step up and I would go fight that fight and I would show the best Colby ‘Chaos’ Covington you’ve seen. I’ve been training so hard, I have the biggest chip on my shoulder since December. I can’t get that bad taste out of my mouth. I’m devastated, I’m heartbroken that I got cheated.”

Kamaru is set to defend his UFC welterweight title against Jorge Masvidal this summer. But Covington is ready to step in for part two, should ‘Gamebred’ price himself out of the title fight, as ‘Chaos’ as suggested in the past.
