Brandon Vera On Arjan Bhullar: This Guy Is The Real Deal

Brandon Vera, has reigned supreme in the ONE heavyweight division, since signing with the promotion in 2014. Having won the ONE heavyweight title at ONE: Spirit Of Champions in 2015, ‘The Truth’ has successfully defended the belt twice. Most recently against Mauro Cerilli at ONE: Conquest Of Champions.

Although he is coming off a loss to Aung La Nsang in Tokyo last October at ONE: Century, while challenging for the ONE light heavyweight title, Vera is all set to defend his heavyweight title once again.

Vera is set to face a wrestling specialist Arjan ‘Singh’ Bhullar, who won his ONE Championship debut against Cerilli, on the same Tokyo card. The Canadian-Indian former Olympian (10-1) signed with ONE after completing his four-fight UFC contract with three wins and one loss, the only one in his MMA career.

Speaking to ONE Championship, Vera gave props to Bhullar’s outstanding wrestling credentials and embraced the upcoming challenge.

“I’m very excited to be fighting Arjan Bhullar and to defend our ONE heavyweight world title,” Vera said. “I think he is probably the best candidate to come face me.

“This guy is the real deal. I respect this guy tremendously. His wrestling is ridiculous. He comes from a school just like where I came from – huge pedigree.”

Nevertheless, the Filipino-American is well aware of Bhullar’s boxing skills as well.

“This guy has amazing boxing that nobody’s talking about. This guy’s boxing is ridiculous,” Vera said. “His head movement is crisp. He’s fast, and he likes to stay in the pocket.”

‘The Truth’ highlighted one more strength in Bhullar’s game, his remarkable conditioning, and gave a hint on how he plans to deal with it.

“Arjan has more gas than most heavyweights, and that’s something really different about him. He knows how to pace himself,” Vera said. “Most heavyweights don’t know how to pace themselves. I’m going to have to push and test and poke in different places that he is not used to.”

When the time comes, Vera doesn’t want to leave it in the hands of the judges.

“We’re [going to be] in a championship fight. It needs to be decided between us, not the three people watching.”

Vera and Bhullar were expected to throw down at ONE: Infinity in Manila, on May 29th. However, ONE recently postponed all of their events in May, as a result of the coronavirus.

Who do you think wins between Brandon Vera and Arjan Bhullar when they meet inside the ONE Circle, for the ONE heavyweight crown?
